Ataraxia — a Greek word for freedom from emotional disturbance and anxiety; existing in tranquillity. Images of play and competition sit in coloured squares, each strong enough to stand alone. Viewers bring their own stories; there are infinite possibilities when it comes to storytelling.
Notes from the artist
One of my favourite paintings — the selection of images and treatment of colour really came together. Dualities run through it: play vs work, imagination and reality, life and death. A whistle might be a game, a warning, or an emergency — meanings flip depending on who's looking.
